Sandra Dragičević

Associate Research Professor

Group for Gene Regulation in Cancer
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics

Sandra Dragičević, PhD, is a biologist whose research focuses on regulation of gene expression in malignant and non-malignant diseases of the lungs and gastrointestinal tract, aiming to identify diagnostic and predictive biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. She graduated from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, where in 2017 she defended her PhD thesis on structural and functional analysis of TGFB1 promoter variants, examining their role in asthma pathogenesis and therapy response. Her later research has mainly addressed alternative promoters and transcripts in malignant diseases. During her career, she has also worked on the development of ex vivo stimulation of human cells and tissues as a methodological approach with potential application in clinical practice.

She was a fellow of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, and since 2015 has worked at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade. She has participated in major national and international projects, including the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia’s Program for Excellent Projects of Young Researchers (PROMIS), a strategic project of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, where she led a work package, and bilateral projects with partners from Germany, Slovenia, and Turkey. She also completed a professional visit to the University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik in Slovenia. She is a member of the Serbian Society for Molecular Biology, the Serbian Association for Cancer Research, and the European Association for Cancer Research. In addition to research, she is engaged in educating university and high school students, as well as in science popularization. She coordinated two projects funded by the Center for the Promotion of Science and participated as assistant coordinator in the EU-funded European Researchers’ Night project.
