Sociomicrobiology Group
Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology
Ivana Galić is a Research Assistant in the Sociomicrobiology Group at IMGGE. Her research focuses on soil microbial communities, herbicide-microbiome interactions, and the application of herbicide-tolerant bacteria in promoting plant growth.
Ivana earned her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology in 2018 and her Master’s degree in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in 2019, both from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade. In the same year, she enrolled in the PhD program in Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology. She has been employed at IMGGE since 2019, first as a Junior Researcher and, since 2022, as a Research Assistant. She also gained international research experience at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy.
Her doctoral dissertation examines the impact of herbicides on agricultural soil microbiomes and resistomes, as well as the application of herbicide-tolerant bacteria in maize growth promotion and bioremediation. Her research combines classical microbiological and metagenomic approaches to study shifts in microbial diversity and function, bacterial resistance mechanisms, and the role of beneficial strains in sustainable agriculture and environmental biotechnology.
