Isidora Petrović
Group for Human Molecular Genetics
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Isidora Petrović graduated in 2000 with a degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in 2012 from the same faculty. She is currently an Associate Research Professor in the Human Molecular Genetics Group, and since 2024, she has served as the Head of the Education Sector at the IMGGE.
Throughout her career, Isidora Petrović has conducted research in the field of human molecular genetics, primarily focusing on gene expression regulation and the molecular mechanisms involved in the acquisition and maintenance of the malignant phenotype in carcinoma cells. In 2008, she completed professional training at the Laboratory for Experimental Oncology, University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she studied tumor angiogenesis. Her most significant publications present findings about the functional connection between SOX genes and various signalling pathways, such as the Hedgehog and p53 pathways, in carcinoma cells. In recent years, her research has been oriented toward developing more complex in vitro model systems for studying cancer cell properties, including 3D mono- and mixed-culture models. Another important research focus involves the search for new potential antitumor agents, both natural and synthetic compounds, tested in various in vitro models and in vivo using zebrafish.
Isidora Petrović has participated in 15 national and 6 international scientific projects and served as the principal investigator on two R&D projects. A significant part of her career has also been dedicated to working with students, both as a lecturer in the doctoral program in Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and as a mentor to doctoral and master’s students.
