Group for human molecular genetics
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Marija Mojsin, PhD, is Full Research Professor in the Human Molecular Genetics Group. She acquired her PhD in Biology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. She has been employed at IMGGE since 2000 and currently she is engaged as the vice president of the IMGGE Governing Board.
She has a long-standing interest in studying the expression of human genes involved in maintaining pluripotency and directing neural differentiation, with a focus on regulatory elements, transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms, and signaling pathways. Currently, her main research focus is assessment of the biocompatibility of newly synthesized carbon-based materials (carbon nanomaterials (CNM), CNM/polymer composites, microplastics and nanoplastics) for the evaluation of their safety and potential use in bioimaging, sensing, photodynamic therapy, and antimicrobial coating. She also investigates the bioactive potential of natural and synthetic compounds, food supplements and beverages for the assessment of their effects on human health and their potential therapeutic use.
She has been actively involved in the realization of twenty research projects founded by European Commission, Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, and industry.
She is actively involved in educational activities related to doctoral studies. She is lecturer and course coordinator in PhD program Molecular biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. She has been mentor and research supervisor of several BSc, MSc and PhD students. She is skilled in science dissemination and communication, and science promotion programs.
