In vivo toxicity assessment of compounds using zebrafish embryos
The toxicity of chemically sinthesized and naturally-derived compounds (from plants, fungi, bacteria, etc.) is determined using zebrafish embryos (Danio rerio) as an animal model system. Owing to high genetic and molecular similarity to mammals, including humans, zebrafish represent very good alternative to mammalian models (mice, rats), and reliable, effective and fast animal model to explore the toxicity of diverse compounds.
The toxicity of tested compound can be evaluated in any of single assays or through offered combinations of assays.
Result of Acute toxicity assay is provided as LC50 concentration (the compound concentration causing the embryos mortality rate of 50%).
Using Teratogenicity assessment assay, the test compound is addressed for its potential to cause teratogenic effects in developing zebrafish embryos, and described through different toxicological parameters, such as: LC50 concentration (the compound concentration causing the embryos mortality rate of 50%), EC50 (the compound concentration affecting 50% of embryos), Ti (teratogenicity index), LOEC (Lowest Observed Effect Concentration), NOEC (No Observed Effect Concentration).
In Cardiotoxicity assay, the test compound is addressed for the potential to cause the cardiovascular disfunctions in zebrafish embryos, such as irregular heart morphology, appearance of pericardial edemas, disturbed heart-beating rate and whole-body circulation.
The analyses are performed within two or three weeks, and after that the results will be dilivered to the client via e-mail.
