Gene Bank for Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR)

IMGGE is an authorized representative of Republic of Serbia in the European Genebank Network for Animal Genetic Resources (EUGENA, https://eugena-erfp.net/en/) since 2022. EUGENA brings together Gene Banks under the umbrella of the European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources with the objective to support the ex situ conservation and sustainable use of the domestic animals in Europe. It currently covers 12 European countries, with 10 Gene Banks and 977.939 samples (blood, tissue, semen, embryos). IMGGE currently stores samples of autochthonous breeds such as Busha cattle, Zackel sheep strains, Balkan goat and Serbian white goat, with the aim of covering all autochthonous breeds of domestic animals in the Republic of Serbia. The material deposited in the IMGGI gene bank is collected in cooperation with the Institute of Animal Husbandry which is the main breeding organization in the Republic of Serbia (https://istocar.bg.ac.rs/sr/), the Department of Breeding and Reproduction of Domestic and Raised Animals of the Institute of Zootechnics Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade (http://www.agrif.bg.ac.rs/Fakultet/126/Organizaciona-Struktura/301044), and the Department of Obstetrics, Sterility and Artificial Insemination, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade (http://www.vet.bg.ac.rs/sr/katedre/porodiljstvo-sterilitet-i-vestacko-osemenjavanje).
