STREAMLINE Project Advances Neurodevelopmental Disorder Research in Serbia with Innovative Stem Cell Tools

The recently completed STREAMLINE project boosted research on neurodevelopmental disorders in Serbia by introducing cutting-edge tools like patient-derived stem cells and brain organoids. Scientists at IMGGE created the country’s first iPSCs from patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, helping to model brain development in the lab. From July 2022 to June 2025, the project offered several training workshops and international summer schools, and the project team was involved in public events like UniStem Day and Researchers’ Night. By partnering with top EU institutions – Maastricht University, Centre for Research and Technology HELLAS (CERTH), and Cardiff University – STREAMLINE strengthened scientific skills, raised awareness, and built a strong community of researchers, clinicians, and families working together to better understand and treat brain disorders.
