The recently completed PharmGenHUB project contributed to transforming personalized medicine across the Western Balkans by strengthening the IMGGE to become a hub in the field of pharmacogenomics.
From July 2022 to June 2025, PharmGenHUB IMGGE team has worked in collaboration with University of Patras, Greece, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and University of Trieste, Italy to employ large-scale DNA sequencing to pinpoint region‑specific drug–gene markers as recommendation for preemptive pharmacogenetic testing and to design a prototype of an electronic pharmacogenomics assistant for Western Balkan region (ePGA‑WB) to serve as a clinical decision-support tool. Induced pluripotent stem cell model system for personalized research of adverse drug reactions was introduced at IMGGE. Project contributions included creation of an original bioinformatics pipeline for raw data WGS analysis, as well as organization of several summer schools and outreach events.
