A dog's mouth is loaded with bacteria because it is a warm, moist and open environment. Bacteria contribute to dental problems, known as periodontal disease (gum disease), the most common issue plaguing our pets mouths. Over 80% of dogs before the age of three have an active periodontal problem. Without regular attention and awareness of ways to prevent gum disease, companion dogs quickly develop a painful condition where their teeth become loose and may need to be pulled out. The single most effective way to keep gums healthy and plaque controlled is daily tooth brushing with the proper toothbrush.

The objective of the project is development of a smart pet toothbrush with a unique set of features (variable heads, bristles with different flavours, NFC communication), and a complimentary mobile app that connects users and veterinarians, i.e. practical, cost-efficient and eco-friendly solution, backed up by research studies, with distinctive innovative technology that reduces plaque accumulation, and bad breath in dogs, as an alternative to expensive veterinary procedures.
