Synthesis of nanomaterials from metal-oxides and 4-aminoquinolines as quorum sensing inhibitors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Emerging of bacterial resistance to current antibiotics has become a global healthcare problem and development of novel approaches in the treatment of bacterial infection is an imperative. The most promising strategy targets bacterial virulence instead of their viability, thus leading to reduced possibility to develop resistance. This bilateral project aims to develop novel hybrid materials composed of quinoline derivatives, inhibitors of bacterial virulence and biocompatible mixed metal oxide nanoparticles exhibiting bactericidal activity for effective management of multiresistant bacterial infections. The underlined idea for development of such composite materials is that anti-virulence activity of quinoline component is expected to reduce virulence factors production and biofilm formation and thus provide even higher efficiency of mixed metal oxide nanoparticles’ bactericidal activity.
