Deregulated hippocampal neurogenesis occurs at the very early stages of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and impairs neuronal repair mechanisms and possibly cognitive function in patients. We will characterize and compare neuronal stem/progenitor cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSc) of AD patients and healthy individuals. This model system will help to uncover new molecular drivers involved in neuroplasticity and might lead to improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
