Prof. Vladimir Glisin

Prof. Vladimir Glisin was the founder of IMGGE and director of this institution for two terms (1986-1989 and 1990-1995).

He graduated at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences in Belgrade as Prof. Pavle Savic's student, and gained his PhD after postgraduate studies at Harvard University in USA. He did his postdoctoral research at Harvard where he worked with Prof. Paul Dotty.

He was a professor at the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies, University of Belgrade. He was the Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Biology at the Institute for Biological Research "Sinisa Stankovic", and the Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Embryology at the Institute of Marine Biology in Kotor.

He was the professor of the Medical Faculty of the University of Kuwait and a visiting professor at Harvard and the Universities of Palermo and Bari. As expert of the United Nations for biotechnology he has participated as a scientific reviewer in determination of the seat of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy.

He has retired in 1995, but only formally. He continued to read about science (mostly Nature), writes (mainly for "Politika") and teaches (mostly for scientific youth).

He passed away in Belgrade, on December 22, 2020, at the age of 90.
