Branko Jovcic, PhD, awarded ICGEB CRP Research Grant 2015

Branko Jovcic, PhD, Assistant Professor of the Chair of Bichemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade and member of the Laboratory for Molecular Microbiology IMGGE was awarded ICGEB's CRP Research Grant for the project entitled " Survey for antimicrobials effective against carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria".

The project deals with the search for new antibiotics that would be effective in the treatment of infections with bacteria resistant to carbapenems, antibiotics against which bacteria are increasingly acquiring resistance. The search will be focused on unexplored and unused resources in the form of microbial communities from sediments of glacial lakes in the Western Balkans, which are potential sources of agents with antimicrobial effect on carbapenem - resistant bacteria.
